Dr. Michael Sfakiotakis is Associate Professor at the Electrical & Computer Engineering Department of the Hellenic Mediterranean University (HMU) in Heraklion, Greece. He received the Diploma degree in Electrical Engineering from Aristotle University, Thessaloniki, Greece, in 1995; his M.Sc. degree in Communications, Control and DSP from Strathclyde University, Glasgow, U.K., in 1996; and his Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh, U.K., in 2000.
Dr. Sfakiotakis is currently Head of the interdepartmental Control Systems and Robotics Laboratory, and Director of the postgraduate program “MSc in Advanced Manufacturing Systems, Automation and Robotics” of the School of Engineering, HMU. He has been involved, either as a Principal Investigator or as a Main Researcher, in many projects funded or co-funded by the European Commission. His main research interests are in the areas of bio-inspired robotic locomotion control, robotics in precision agriculture, and micro-robots for medical applications. Dr. Sfakiotakis has 64 publications/presentations in scientific journals and conferences, with over 2200 citations (h-index: 18) and a number of honours and awards.
